Development FUND 2007-2008 Report by C. Stewart Parker, FDF Committee, Chair March 31, 2007 DOWNLOAD PDF OF REPORT & Recipients The Faculty Development Fund Committee reviewed 43 applications, and recommended 30 awards ranging in amount from $ 1,000 to $ 5,000, for a total of $65,058 Applications varied in range and subject matter, including a gallery-based installation piece titled “Precise Breathing”, which combines sculpture, video and painting to explore the “intricate relationship between bees and ourselves.” Other interdisciplinary projects include a proposal to utilize electroforming techniques to fabricate furniture among other products, and “hybridizes” industrial design, jewelry design and architecture. Another project proposed the use of the emerging technology Mobile Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, to carry out the non-destructive study of 15th C frescoes which are hidden underneath 18th C frescoes at the Villa Palagione in Tuscany. Other projects funded included an animated film titled “The Itch,” described as a fairy tale for grown-ups and uses the “handmade-look“ of claymation to explore issues of social acceptance; a novel-in-progress entitled “Queen Lear’s Grandson,“ based on Shakespeare’s King Lear, and a series of humanistic, abstract “Razor Paintings” which allude to computer technology.
