Access Distinguished Teacher E-ballot

Spring 2008: Senate appoints Professor Brent Porter to chair the committee.
February. Committee chair forms committee, which is comprised of faculty/chair representatives from each of the four schools and the Library and one student each, representing UG and Grad. Senate hires grad asst to help w/ DTA campaign production. Committee finalizess guidelines for election process. Prepare promotional campaign for 2008-2009 DTA campaign. E-announce DTA, guidelines, schedule, e-ballotting.

Feb 06 : Meeting, as requested by Provost, with ad hoc DTA group to discuss criteria and e-balloting.

Feb 28 : E-Balloting begins

Mar 07 : E-Balloting ends

Mar 12 onward: Vote verification and tally. DTAC review election results.
[Mar 16-27: Spring Break]
• DTAC review finalists HR files /committee votes by secret ballot
• Finalize choice of DTA candidate.
• Phone/e-mail with a follow-up letter notification of faculty finalists.

Apr 08 : DTAC finalist recommendation to Senate

Apr16: Distinguished Teacher Award finalist 2007-2008 recommendation to Provost, who then presents to the Board of Trustees.

Thu May 1
: Board of Trustees meeting

Thu, May 8 : Honors Convocation in Memorial Hall
Outgoing Distinguished Teacher (Professor Wirls) addresses the assembly.

Fri, May 9 : Commencement
Outgoing Distinguished Teacher (Professor Wirls) carries the mace in
The 2008-2009 Distinguished Teacher delivers speech and carries the mace out

Conclusion: Committee Chair prepares full report, including recommendations, regarding DTA procedures to the Provost and the Senate, the latter of which will report to the community.
